A note from our CEO, President, and Founder:
My team and I are deeply troubled by the ongoing examples of violence, cruelty, and injustice committed toward people of color in our country, as demonstrated by the tragic acts toward George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, and countless others. Headland has and remains committed to values of inclusion and equality in all aspects of our business. Integrity and inclusivity are the first two of our seven core values. 50% of our core team are members of minorities or LGBTQ. But we know that we can do more.
We are announcing three initiatives to help make the healthcare industry in which we operate more equitable. First, we will be partnering with two historically black universities to offer free career mentoring and career advisory services to undergraduates and graduates in STEM degree programs. Second, we have opened a summer internship opportunity that can be found here. Third, we are making a relatively large donation for our size: $15,000 split equally between the Obama Foundation and the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. In combination with our employee donation matching program, we are committing >$20,000 in donations (>$1,500 per employee).
We are sharing this because we think it is an important time in American society to right the wrongs that have been perpetrated for over 400 years. We recognize that progress takes time. As a company, we will continue to do our part to fight for change. We welcome a dialogue about how you as individuals or as companies are adapting to these changes and what actions you are taking.
For those of you in the US, we wish you a safe and healthy 4th of July. Traditionally, it is a time to be with family and friends. And it can be a time to reflect on what kind of society we live in and how we might work to make it better.
Andrew (on behalf of the Headland team)
